Laser Surgery

Laser surgery is a type of surgery that uses special light beams instead of instruments for surgical procedures. There are many different types of lasers, including the carbon dioxide laser, the YAG (neodymium, or yttrium aluminum garnet) laser, and the argon laser. Each one works differently and may be used for various treatment options. Laser light can be delivered either continuously or intermittently, and the wavelength of the laser determines the target within the skin and the effect it may have.

Surgical Spectrum

  1. HEMORRHOIDS/PILES
Laser Hemorrhoidopexy is a preferred and ideal day care procedure for hemorrhoids. Digital Ligation of Hemorrhoidal artery is added with laser Hemorrhoidopexy for doubling the effectiveness of surgery. Compared to open hemorrhoid surgery, laser surgery results in less pain, fewer cuts, less bleeding, and fewer complications with early recovery.
  2. VARICOSE VEINS
    EVLT-ENDOVENOUS LASER TREATMENT.
It’s a day care or OPD procedure for varicose veins with or without complications. Can be done under local anesthesia, and patients can walk or resume work on the same day (no bed rest required). The preferred Hybrid Procedure for varicose veins includes EVLT + ligation of all tributaries near SF region and major culprit SF Junction (SaphanoFemoral Junction). Personally, a preferred choice of treatment for varicose veins.
  3. FISSURES IN ANO

Laser can be beneficial in acute and chronic anal fissures (equally effective). Laser procedures include:

    • Laser Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy
    • Laser Fissurectomy
    • Laser Sentinel Tag Excision
    • Laser Papilla Excision (Laser Triad Excision)
  4. Fistula In ANO
Laser Fistula Surgery can be preferred in simple and single fistula tracts established on clinical evaluation or MRI. The decision is better taken after discussion with the operative surgeon. High recurrence rates are associated with multiple tracts or complex fistulas in ANO after laser surgery. Hybrid surgery can be done in such situations, and early resumption of work is an added advantage of laser surgery.
  5. PILONIDAL SINUS
It’s a back swelling with infection and always contains hair in it. Laser surgery can be considered in simple cases.
